The 15-Minute Investment We Couldn’t Afford

Processes… Unless I Say Otherwise!

One of my biggest workplace pet peeves?

When someone decides to override an established process… for exactly one request.

Not because the process changed.

Not because anyone got together and agreed on a better way.

Not because there was an emergency.

Just because.

We had a simple intake process.

A new request came in.

The TPM scheduled a quick 15-minute meeting so everyone could understand the request, ask questions, prioritize it against other work and decide which team should own it.

It worked.

Then, out of nowhere, a manager jumped into Slack:

“No meeting. Just assign it to a team.”

Excuse me?

Did we change the process?

Did I miss the memo?

Or is today’s process just whatever happens to be typed into Slack?

Here’s what drives me crazy: if you think the process is broken, let’s change it. Seriously. Let’s discuss it, improve it, document it, and move forward.

But don’t hijack one request, bypass the people responsible for the process, and expect everyone to magically know whether this is:

  • a one-time exception,
  • the new standard,
  • or just today’s management mood.

Nothing creates chaos faster than undocumented or unexplained exceptions.

Processes aren’t frustrating because they exist.

They’re frustrating because someone decides they don’t apply… until they do again.

And somehow we’re all supposed to know the difference.

The Journey Begins

Calling All My Fellow Workplace Survivors

Do you spend your workdays trying to inject a little logic, reason, and common sense into the chaos around you?

First, welcome.

Second, you’re not alone.

This blog was created for the people, by the people! I want this to be a place where we can laugh, vent, learn, and remind ourselves that we’re all navigating the wonderfully unpredictable world of work together.

I have a dream!

I dream that maybe, just maybe, one of the more… challenging people we encounter every day will accidentally stumble onto one of these posts and experience a miraculous transformation into a thoughtful, self-aware, highly functioning colleague.

A person can dream, right?

Send it our way!

We’ll publish the best stories as part of our online workplace trauma-bonding community, where we laugh so we don’t cry and discover we’re all living surprisingly similar lives.

Your anonymity is our highest priority. We won’t collect or publish personal information, and identifying details will be removed before anything is shared.

Together, maybe we can change the world…

…one blog post at a time.

I can’t wait to hear about your wild workplace experiences. Your stories might just help someone else get through another Monday—and they’ll probably help me survive this thing called life, too.
